Abstract

Until recently, Mao was largely interpreted in terms of revolutionaries. However, during his lifetime, the revolution has always been accompanied by the problem of governance. This paper is an attempt to interpret Mao's early ideas in terms of governance. Mao Zedong first considered the people as important political entities and thought that the people with equal status should be the new political entities off China. Therefore, the ideological structure of early Mao Zedong should be interpreted through the principle of modern sovereign state, not Marxism. In the process of establishing the modern sovereign state, power is no longer private property. The concept is switched to that used for general interest. In addition to the conversion of power to public purpose, the emergence of the people is also an important axis of modern sovereignty. The emergence of people with equal status as the subjects of politics has led the state to have the function to govern the amorphous group, 'people.' Based on this consciousness, this paper examines how the core principles of modern sovereign national principles are constructed and how Mao Zedong's early ideas are structured in the light of such principles. What is important is to trace how Mao Zedong's early ideas, which originated from the principles of the modern sovereign state, underwent a transformation after his encounter with Marxism. In this paper, Mao Zedong We will trace what transformation has occurred since the encounter with Marxism.
