Abstract

Nowadays, new Western media artists tend to speak out about their art manifestos and express their positions with the purpose of arousing public attention and leading the direction of art.We could thoroughly analyze new media art manifestos of the West by comparing them with Chinese classical literature theories. Zheng Banqiao (Zheng Xie), one of the famous painters in the Qing Dynasty, demonstrated the techniques of “bamboo in the eye”, "bamboo of the heart"and “bamboo by the hand”. These three definitions of bamboo correspond to that of "Living Law”("Huo Fa”in Chinese), “all things bursting with vitality”, "flexible and various approaches” and "divergent forms of existence," and exemplify new Western media views including vigorous creatures in art observation, flexible strategies in art conception, and numerous forms of art conveyance. The comparisons and examples above are beneficial for us to grasp the concept of new mediaart to achieve freedom against and with technology on multi-levels of epistemolo-gy,ontology and sociology.
